
The Interactions for Peace © - Middle School Mediators Program is a customized extension of the Peace Patrol © Program. The training and processes are virtually identical. The implementation differs in that the counselors do the training and coordinating of peer mediations. The goal is to teach all students, teachers and administrators to use mediation as an effective way to resolve conflicts.

A Brief History...
The Middle School Mediators Program is a adaptation of the Peace Patrol © training model. The Program was modified for implementation at middle schools by Mary Lou Fredrickson, a Counselor at Irving Middle School. She received the Peace Patrol © Program training and had the insight to establish a customization of her Peace Patrol © Program training that was tailored to middle school children. Over the years, the Middle School Mediators Program was developed and ultimately incorporated into the Interactions for Peace © System of Programs.

The Middle School Mediators Program strives to decrease the amount of voilent conflicts that occur by preventing disputes from turning into major conflicts in the first place. The middle school students that participate are trained in the mediation process, and the entire student body gains knowledge about mediation through classroom presentations done by the Middle School Mediators and/or counselors.
Mediation allows students to talk about their feelings more than acting them out in a negative manner.
